New Beginnings

I'm new to writing. I'm new to blogs. I'm new to writing for a blog. So, or course I thought that the best way was for me to start things off was the way I always learn best—by just jumping right in and writing what came to mind. The result was this initial post in my new blog, The Life of a Tsundoku Bibliophile.
I thought that I'd begin by explaining the name of my blog. For those of you that don't know, a Bibliophile is someone that collects books and loves to read. The work "Tsundoku" is a bit more complicated to explain.
"Tsundoku" is a concept that has to do with collecting books to read at a later date. This Japanese word essentially means "to acquire reading materials and to allow them to pile up in one's home".
While I haven't collected enough books that they spill out into the rest of the house, my room has become a library in and of itself. I have about 700 books miraculously stored in there somehow, and I keep gathering more. As it stands, I need a new bookshelf—or two. Soon, I'll need a bigger room. But I'm not complaining.
No, I love my books. Even though I haven't read all of them, I still feel a connection with all of them that causes me to love each and every one of them. I love them so much that I decided to start a blog about them.
And that finally brings me to the purpose of this blog: to write about the books that I love. Books are my safe-haven—my place of refuge from the outside world. No matter how crazy my life gets, books are always there to ground me and help me to reconnect to those funny things people call emotions.
The Life of a Tsundoku Bibliophile may have just started, but I already have ideas for new posts and a multitude of books to review. I want to read all of them and then dig through them to give recommendations and honest reviews. I hope that you will be willing to take this journey with me!
I'll leave you with a quote from Stephen King, best known for his horror novels: “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” This quote encapsulates all of what books are for me. I hope that through this blog, I will be better able to express what books mean to me.
Thank you so much for reading my first of hopefully many posts on my blog, The Life of a Tsundoku Bibliophile. Enjoy!
