Decisions, Decisions—All of Them Right

Trust me when I say: I know the feeling.

You've just put down a fantastic novel or finished an incredible series. You've finally managed to get over your book hangover (or, Some Call it a Slump). Now, you don't know what book to cross off of your TBR list next.

Well, I've done some of the hard work for you. In this post, I will be going over the pros and cons of different options for choosing your next read. These innovative discoveries take the stress out of picking a new best friend. Indecisive readers, meet your match(es).

1. First on the list is an Online Number Picker. You can use these helpful tools by assigning numbers to the books you want to read and spinning away! This takes the stress out of picking a book yourself because you can hand everything over to the wheel. Then, choosing a read becomes a game—a game of chance.

2. Next, we have an Online Quiz. Another online tool to help your TBR become a little bit shorter. Or, in my case, a little longer with the suggestions that followed. An online quiz can help you discover what genre you are in the mood to read. After that, you'll have a narrowed list that you can choose from using...

3. The Good Ol' Close Yer Eyes N' Point method. Yep, sticking with the tried and true strategy of mixing up a bunch of books so that you don't know which is which, closing your eyes, and pointing to one of them. Ta da, you've just picked your next read! This technique is simple but effective, and it allows you to personalize it somewhat by choosing which books you lay out.

4. Sticking with the old-fashioned approach, how about Asking Someone You Know? Ask a friend, a coworker, family member, or even a random stranger on the street (if you're enough of an extrovert to try that one). Almost everyone you know or meet has read at least one good book in their lifetime, and if you ask, I'm sure they'll give you a recommendation. Easy peasy!

5. Okay, so let's say that you've narrowed it down to a few options. You have a handful of books you're deciding between, but you just can't seem to decide on one of them. It sounds like it's time to Create A Poll! Add it to a Facebook page, send it to a group chat, or post it on your Discord server. Whatever way you go about it, letting others vote on your next read adds some spice to your choice.

6. Here's an option for someone who does not have a stack of books at home waiting to be read. Join a Book Club. A book club is a great way to choose your next read because the organizers often select a few books for the entire club to vote on. You get to say your part, but the outcome is largely decided by the masses. Aside from choosing a new book, you can also make great friends. You can join a book club through your local library, but you can also find plenty of clubs online!

7. Last but not least, we have the Notes In A Jar option. This method uses strips of paper and something to put them in to let fate decide your next read. You write the names of the books in your TBR on pieces of paper, fold them up, and throw them in a container. Then just mix them up, reach in, and now you're off with a new story. This is the method that I use myself. I'll post a picture of my mini pill-capsules full of book recommendations on my Instagram so you can see what I mean!

So there you have it: seven methods for the undecided reader to pick their next book. Do you have trouble deciding which book you should read from your TBR? Do you have any other unique ways to choose your next read? Let us know in the comments! We'd love to hear from you.
